22nd Annual Induction Dinner Held

More than 700 family, friends and guests attend

The Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame 22nd annual induction ceremony was celebrated on October 17 at the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Buffalo. More than 700 family, friends and guests of this year’s inductees were in attendance.

The class of 2012 included Silver Creek, St. Bonaventure and ABA basketball star George Carter; Bills’ defensive leader in 1960s, Harry Jacobs; Buffalo Sabres broadcasting legend Rick Jeanneret; athlete and coach in the sports of golf, softball, basketball, Kim Kaul; Niagara County Community College wrestling coach of 38 years, Eric Knuutila; master tennis instructor, Todd Miller; multi-sport coach at Nichols High School, Frank Sacheli; St. Joe’s Collegiate Institute football coach and athletic director, Joe Wolf and brothers Craig and Ron Wolfley. Craig Wolfley was a standout at Orchard Park high school, Syracuse University and as a NFL lineman and Ron Wolfley made his mark as an NFL special teams player.
Entering the Hall posthumously was the University at Buffalo athlete, coach, and administrator Nan Harvey, major league baseball players Wally Schang and Stan Rojek and professional boxer and referee Lou Scozza.

This year’s 14 inductees brings the total number of local sports legends in the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame to 254.
